Funding Philosophy
The Institute makes grants to support initiatives and programs that seek to achieve positive educational, economic and social change in four areas of focus: understanding the Internet and society, closing social divides, stimulating New Economy entrepreneurship and advancing a more effective philanthropy.
The Institute does not accept unsolicited grant proposals. Because of IRS regulations, the Institute can only fund organizations that have 501c3 status.
When the Institute supports programs and organizations, it seeks to:
- to be viewed as more than just a "check writer." The Institute strives to build long-term relationships with grantees, offers the expertise of its staff and advisors, and works collaboratively with organizations it supports.
- support and develop leaders, who have the capacity to mobilize their communities to make meaningful change.
